I know Google translates Morcilla as 'Blood sausage', but it's essentially Black Pudding - my late grandfather was from Madrid (although he spent most of his life in England in my family), and he would often be craving morcilla along with many other traditional Spanish dishes, such as Callos - a stew consisting of beef tripe and chickpeas - so we would frequent tapas bars and other Mediterranean restaurants throughout my youth π
I didnβt know you had Spanish heritage, what a treat to enjoy all those things as a kid. The Spanish chefs I have interviewed always ate much better as kids than the English ones. Have you been to San Juan?
Hi Kel, I actually don't have Spanish heritage, he's not my real grandfather, my Grandpa 'Rocky' was just always there from when I was born - my real English grandad (on my mum's side) passed away before I was born. Yeah I went once to that Chorlton bar with my grandpa but didn't think much of it to be honest (particularly with it being very cramped and the food wasn't great when I tried it - perhaps it's improved on both counts in recent years) in comparison to some other Spanish establishments I liked more across Greater Manchester (Evuna, Los Amigos, La Casona, La Tasca etc.)
